USAR Hooters ProCup Alan Kulwicki Memorial Lucas Oil 250

October 9, 2005 (Mansfield, OH)

Cold rain peppered the beautiful Mansfield Motorsports Speedway this past Saturday, postponing qualifying and the USAR Hooters ProCup Alan Kulwicki Memorial Lucas Oil 250 race until Sunday afternoon.

Forty-one cars attempted to qualify for the event and Ken Butler III was the 11th car to go out and he secured the 28th position with a time of 17.159 seconds around the ½-mile asphalt oval.

When the green flag dropped, Butler would keep pace with the pack during the first 12 laps when the first caution came out as Daniel Johnson in the No. 56 slowed. KBIII would pick up a couple of spots on the restart and seemed pleased with the handling of the car while in traffic.

On lap-41, Andrew Rogers in the No. 18 car spun in turn-4, right in front of KBIII. Butler locked up the brakes trying not to broadside Rogers, and the Dream Machine slid hard into the wall damaging the right side.

Butler brought the crumpled car to the garage and the crew inspected the damage. The hit crushed the right front and broke the break rotor, ending his day. Butler would finish 36th.

“I hate it for the guys.” Butler said. “The car was good and we were just biding our time out there. When the 18 spun in front of me, I got on the brakes hard and must have gotten in the marbles because the car shot straight into the wall. It’s a shame, I think we were in for a solid finish, but I guess these things happen. We’ll make it up at Myrtle Beach in a couple of weeks.”

You can catch all of the ProCup action from Mansfield, Saturday, October 15 at 10:00 PM on SPEED Channel. The fourth of five Championship Series races will be at the Myrtle Beach Speedway in Myrtle Beach, SC Saturday, October 22.

Be sure to vote KBIII as the Most Popular Driver in the USAR Hooters ProCup series. You can vote once a day!
