KB III gets First top 15 Finish

Jefferson, GA April 16, 2005 It was a beautiful day as the Aaron’s Dream Team made its first of two trips to the high-banked ½ mile track of the Peach State Speedway in Jefferson, GA for the Aaron’s 250. The Aaron’s sports marketing team joined the race team at the track supplying the fans with Aaron’s #99 Dream Team gear and providing the fans with opportunity to register for a chance to win a 1955 Chevy Bel-Air in honor of Aaron’s 50th Anniversary.

Ken Butler III came to Peach State Speedway Saturday with some confidence after his first top 20 in ProCup racing two weeks ago in Greenville, SC. Butler and the Dream Team continued to show improvement during the practice where the #99 car was 14th quickest heading into qualifying with a lap time of 19.048. This was the team’s best practice session of the year.

After a good practice run, KB III and the Dream Team were ready to put the Dream Machine in the front of the field. However, the best qualifying lap was a little off his practice time by about .04 seconds with a lap of 19.081. This was good enough for the 23rd position in the show. Mark McFarland, driver of the No. 32 Winfuel Chevy, took the Advance Auto Parts pole with a lap of 18.721 at 96.149 for the second time this year.

As the sun set on Peach State Speedway and the temperature dropped, the action of the Aaron’s 250 would heat up the speedway. The race was full of excitement with 11 lead changes by six different drivers. The Dream Machine spent the early part of the night inside the top 20, but as the night progressed KB III put the Dream Machine inside the top 15 and flirted with the top 10. The majority of the race the Dream Machine stayed out of trouble; however, on lap 241 just 9 laps shy of the checkered flag the #99 Dream Machine got spun around in turn two to bring out the 8th and final caution of the Aaron’s 250. KB III was able to keep the car off the wall with little damage and finish the race in a season high 13th position. Shane Huffman, driver of the #81 Knight’s Companies Ford, won the Aaron’s 250. It was his third win in four races.

The Dream Team was excited about their ProCup best finish of 13th place and the constant improvement by the team from week to week. In only his fourth Hooters ProCup start, KB III is knocking on the door of the top 10 finish. He is currently 19th out of 53 drivers in the Southern Division standing and fifth among 20 rookies.

Ken Butler III and the Aaron’s Dream Machine will visit Concord Motorsports Park for the Naturally Fresh 250 on Saturday, April 23 at 7:30pm.
