Brett Butler got behind the wheel of his Late Model racecar at the Hickory Motor Speedway Saturday night and had hopes of capturing another top-10. Brett would battle a loose car during practice and qualifying and would start the 100-lap race 19th.
Butler took the green flag and started working his way towards the front. Dodging several spins early in the event and passing several cars, Brett would move up to 12th by lap-20 and set his sights on the top-10.
During a restart on lap-23 Butler would make a hard run on the No. 58 car of Carl Cormier coming out of turn four and the two rubbed tires sending them both spinning. Cormier’s car spun low, then came back up the track into Brett’s car doing quite a bit of damage to the 00.
Brett brought the car down pit road for repairs and the crew removed the crumpled sheet metal and made sure there would be no tires rubbing and sent Butler back out. However, the damage affected the handling and Brett had a difficult time getting through the turns. Butler would park it in the garage after just a couple of laps and end his evening early. “I want to thank the guys on the crew and everyone at Aaron’s.” Brett said after the race. “We had two top-tens before this and I know we had a good chance to get back up front, I was just at the wrong place a the wrong time.”
Butler moved into the 15th position in the Late Model points chase and will try it again this Saturday.
