USAR Hooters ProCup - Ace Speedway - Altamahaw, NC

May 6, 2005 Altamaha, N.C.- Fans began filling the parking lots of Ace Speedway after an early rain and chilling winds. Aaron’s product display tent was the main focus as fans entered the track. The display tent featured a sample of Aaron’s furniture such as a living room set and a television that broadcast live from inside the track. Aaron Employees welcomed guest and encouraged them to register for a shot at winning a 1955 Chevy. Fans also received a gift bag with signature photos and Aaron accessories. Along with the display tent, Aaron’s had prominent signage on and around the racetrack.

On the track, driving the #99 Aaron’s Dream Machine was 23-year-old Ken Butler III. Butler, running strong throughout practice, hit the brakes when the car in front of him spun out and hit the wall. Trying to avoid a collision, Butler was hit from behind and knocked into the wreck. With three hours remaining until the race, the crew was confident they could get the car repaired and back on the track and they did. The Hooter’s Cup got underway at 8 pm. After a tough run during practice, Butler started the race in the 21st position. Passing, bumping and paint swapping was the name of the game on the track leading to 15 cautions. Butler said, “The car never wanted to turn like it needed to, I could not hug the white line and the car wanted to push up in the center so basically, I was fighting a tight car, it was even worse when the breaks got hot.” After a tough 250 laps, Butler finished the race in the 17th position. Jody Lavender, driving the #84 car took the checkered flag at Ace Speedway.

May 7, 2005 Hickory, N.C.- From red clay to asphalt, known as the “Birthplace of the NASCAR Stars”, Hickory Motor Speedway continues to be a hot spot for racing. With four races in one night, along with the driver’s, the fans were eager to get the engines rolling. Street Stock cars took the track followed by Pro-4’s, Limited Late Models, Late Model Stock cars and ended with Hobby cars. Driving in the Late Model Stock race was 20-year-old Brett Butler behind the wheel of the #00 car. Being Brett’s second race in the late model division, he started the race in the 21st position. With 23 cars on the track and only 50 laps to run, Brett held strong and finished the race in the 17th position, ironically starting and finishing the race in the same positions as his older brother did Friday night in the Hooters Cup. Brett said, “it was disappointing that I finished in the back because I feel I could have finished better. The good thing about the race is that I finished in one piece compared to my previous race. All in all, the car ran good, I just feel like I need to get use to the track and the bigger cars.”

May 8, 2005 Atlanta, G.A.- Stopping the storm in its tracks, the Georgia Force claimed the 2005 Southern Division Championship this Sunday. The Force took on Tampa Bay Storm Sunday. Falling to Tampa Bay earlier in the season, Georgia Force went into Sunday’s game holding the best record in the league, 9-4, with an undefeated record at home, 6-0. Since the loss to Tampa Bay back in April, Georgia Force gained key players and had three receivers surpass the 1,000+ receiving yard mark in one season for the first time in history. Defeating Tampa Bay Storm 52-40, Georgia Force became the first team in the AFL this season to clinch a spot in the playoffs.

Aaron’s teamed up with 790 The Zone during halftime to hold the Mother’s Day promotion, the “Come To Daddy Contest.” Ten mothers qualified through 790 The Zone prior to game day. The mothers were blindfolded and released onto the field during halftime in attempt to locate and hug their “daddy”, Mike Bell from 790 The Zone. To make the event entertaining, “dummies”, including the Force mascot, a cheerleader and members of Aaron’s staff were placed randomly on the field to throw off the mothers. The first mother to locate and hug Mike Bell won their choice of a Dream Prize package for their home from Aaron’s. Packages included a 52” RCA HDTV with a Bose home theatre system, a bedroom set, a living room set, or an appliance pack containing a refrigerator and washer and dryer. Aisha Ghafoor-Harris was the lucky mom. For her Mother’s Day prize package, she chose the RCA HDTV with a Bose home theatre system. Aisha said, “It made for the best Mother’s Day ever and the game was fantastic!”

The win over Tampa Bay upped the Georgia Force to a perfect home record of 7-0. Georgia Forces will host their last home game of the season this Saturday, May 14, at 7 pm were they will take on The Dallas Desperados.
