October 16, 2005 (Hickory, NC)
The late model series season finale was held Sunday, October 16th at Hickory Motor Speedway. Referred to as the “Fall Brawl”, the race definitely lived up to its name. The day kicked off with an altercation between Peter Silva #01 and Brent Raymer #85 during their practice run. The altercation continued in the pit resulting in Silva being disqualified from the race and Raymer being placed in the back of the pack. With things finally under control, the “Fall Brawl” began. Brett Butler was behind the wheel of the #08 Aaron’s Dream Machine starting the race in the 18th position with his brother Ken Butler III starting in the 22nd position, driving the #99 Aaron’s Dream Machine.
The 250-lap “Fall Brawl” was underway with 29 cars on the track. The first caution came out in the second lap when #31 Kyle Grissom experienced engine failure. With an early caution, it was a strong restart within the pack. The Butler brothers fought to work their way toward the front. Battling within the pack, the second caution came out in lap 37 when KBIII, driving the #99 Aaron’s Dream Machine became tangled with #98 Erin Crocker. After spinning out, KBIII was able to jump back into the race only to find himself tangling and spinning into turn one with #22 Derek Kale in lap 67. Bringing out the fourth caution of the race, KBIII was forced to park the Aaron’s Dream Machine and settle in 22nd position. Brett Butler was still running strong as he brought the #08 Aaron’s Dream Machine from 18th to 12th position. With 11 cautions during the course of the race and only 16 cars left running, Brett was able to find a good line and hold onto it, finishing in 15th place. With fierce competition throughout the day, #8 Jamie Yelton took home the checkered flag to conclude the season.
