Montgomery, Alabama – The Aaron’s Sports Marketing Team hit Montgomery Alabama this weekend for the third USAR ProCup Series race of the season. Rolling into town, their first stop was at the local Aaron’s Sales and Lease Store. With the Aaron’s Dream Machine simulator and the Termidor simulator on site, WBAM 98.9 FM live broadcasts, opportunities to register-to-win a trip for two to the Arena Bowl XX, and an autograph session with Aaron’s Dream Machine driver’s, Brett Butler, KBIII, and Andrew Rogers; it was an exciting evening at Aaron’s.
Loading up for their next stop, the Aaron’s Sports Marketing Team headed to Montgomery Motor Speedway for the day’s festivities. With corporate display and prominent signage around the track, the Aaron’s team was prepared for what the cold temperatures would allow. As fans entered the track, the Aaron’s storefront balloon was the main focus. With opportunities to register to win a trip to the Arena Bowl XX, fans also had the opportunity to register for an opportunity to drive the Aaron’s Dream Machine at a select NASCAR track through SpeedTech with the drawing done by the Aaron’s Lucky Dog before the start of the race. Congratulations to Trevor Durham from Prattville, Alabama, winner of the SpeedTech laps.
Brett Butler represented Aaron’s on the track driving the #99 Aaron’s Dream Machine for the third time this season. Aaron’s was also proud to welcome Andrew Rogers to the team. Rogers represented Aaron’s in the #81 Aaron’s/Termidor Ford for the first time this season. Having strong practice runs, both men were very confident in their Dream Machines and the teams felt Aaron’s could have a great outcome at Montgomery Motor Speedway.
Taking the track for qualifying, Butler took the 28th position to start the race with a qualifying time of 21.346. Rogers would start the race in the 11th position with a qualifying time of 20.748. There was only a split second between driver qualifying times.
After an on-track autograph session and driver introductions, the Manfull Investment Corporation 250 race started. With early cautions coming out, it was looking to be a long, cold night for the race teams and fans. Butler, running hard, had gained 10 positions when the first caution came out. Butler, along with two other competitors made it through the wreckage only to be passed by a line of cars. Surprisingly, officials only placed Butler’s car behind the 10 cars that passed him during the wreck. Butler and Rogers raced hard and were gaining ground when Butler’s luck slipped again on lap 50 as he was spun out in turn 3 by #01 driver Wayne Willard, bringing out the third caution of the evening. Frustrated, Brett retaliated against the #01 car and was black-flagged.
Not only battling the other drivers, Butler now found himself also battling the officials. He was accessed another black flag for not allowing cars to pass, even though he ran a bottom line so they could pass. Butler still stuck it out to maintain his fight for “Rookie of the Year”. Unfortunately this just wasn’t Brett’s night, as he fell victim to more bad luck as he hit the wall in turn 3 to bring out the 9th caution of the evening. Butler was then forced to retire to the garage due to heavy damage to the car. Rogers maintained a top ten spot throughout the race and brought the #81 Aaron’s Dream Machine across the finish line, taking the 10th position after 2 green-white-checkered restarts.
With an off weekend for the Southern Series, Butler’s next run will be on April 8th at Peach State Speedway in Jefferson, Georgia.
