After a one-day delay in action due to rain, Hermie Sadler started the Atlanta 500 from the 41st position. At lap 57 mechanical failure forced Sadler to the garage. The Aaron’s Dream Machine returned to the track to complete 166 laps and Sadler finished the event in the 42nd position.

Kasey Kahne won the Atlanta event from the pole position.
