Michael Waltrip and the No. 99 Aaron’s team started the day with qualifying for the Nicorette 300. The Aaron’s Dream Machine would start the event from the 26th position after Waltrip qualified at a speed of 185.406 mph.
The Atlanta Motor Speedway was tough on right rear tires throughout the event with blowouts causing three of the event’s six cautions. When the checkered flag flew Waltrip was in the 22nd position.
Jeff Burton took the lead with 20 laps remaining and went on to win the 300-mile race.
