What Happens in Mexico, Stays in Mexico

Waltrip has tough luck at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodrgiquez Busch Series Race

Mexico City- Over the weekend, Aaron’s #99 Dream Machine Driver, Michael Waltrip, had a bit of tough luck. After posting a good qualifying time of 100.505 mph, Waltrip started the day in the 29th position.

The car was running good and Waltrip was starting to get into the groove of things before getting squeezed into a tire wall on lap 35. The crash was touted as the biggest crash of the day and unfortunately for Waltrip and the Aaron’s Dream Machine, the day was over at that point, retiring to the garage. Waltrip walked away from the accident without injury but could not continue the race resulting in a 40th place finish.

Busch Series drivers found the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez road course to be a little more challenging than the ovals they are used to driving. Formula One drivers proved to have a little more success on the track in Mexico.

Nonetheless, after the third Busch Series race of the season, Waltrip is currently in 24th place and only 221 points behind leader Kevin Harvick in the Busch standings. Waltrip’s next stop in the Aaron’s Dream Machine will be on March 18 at Atlanta Motor Speedway for the Nicorette 300 Busch Series race. Waltrip typically runs well at Atlanta Motor Speedway, last year finishing 7th in both the Aaron’s 312 Busch race and the Nextel Cup race.
